 Today we can find a lot of information on the web on how to make money with blogs and all that. The following content is more of a guide that serves the likes of a novice blogger wondering how to blog. We will start with basics and follow with information on how you to set up a blog, choose a topic, select a platform etc.
First you should answer the question what is a blog? - A blog ( or weblog ) is an online diary or journal where your most recent posts appears at the top of the web page. Blogs can have links to other websites and blogs. It can also allow the readers to post comments on your post.
Choose a niche topic Now that you know what a blog is, you can now thing about selecting a topic for your blog. For this you need to do some introspection on who you are, as you are the one who is going to write the blog. Make a list of your favorite hobbies and passions. Remember,
a blog is all about passion and interest. Also see that the topic you have selected is widely searched on web space.
Choose Domain name - while choosing domain name, you need to emphasize on what your blog is about. Think about short and memorable keywords related to your content. Check whether the Domain name is available. You can check domain name availability on sites like DomainBot and checkdomain.com.
Choose blogging platform - A blogging platform is what you use to publish your blog on the the web. There are a variety of blogging platforms available on the internet, but wordpress and bloggers are the most popular. You need to assess what your blog is about and choose your platform accordingly. You need to see whether your blog is a personal blog or a personal blog before going for the blog platform. Nevertheless you can use Wordpress and Blogger for both business blogs and other personal blogs.
Add an about page -You should add an about page so that the readers can know the person behind the blog and relate on a more personal level. The about page can contain a photo of the author, some words on who the author is, contact details, and some comments on what the blog is all about.
Claim your blog on Technorati - Technorati is a search engine for blogs. It lists blogs and publishes any new post of your blog into the blogosphere and is one of the best ways to improve traffic to your blog site. So see that you claim your blog on Technorati.
Add widgets - Widgets are a compact and easy way to add functionality to your blog. But don't add too much, this can only irritate the reader. Some examples of widgets: Flickr Flash Photo Stream Badge a widget that display images from your Flickr profile, FeedCount displays the number of visitors to your blog, Technorati Link Count - displays number of links your website has from technorati and MyPageRank displays the google pagerank of your blog.
Create RSS feed - Creating an RSS feed is not only easy but also a vital thing to help increase traffic and add subscribers to your blogs. Feeds are simple to create and easy to submit and can improve readership to your blogs in a big way.
